Espresso singer Sabrina Carpenter was initially cast for the leading role, but a Netflix star has since been announced in her place.
The star of Netflix’s Queen Charlotte has replaced Sabrina Carpenter in the main role of a major new film.
India Amarteifio played the titular role in Netflix’s hit Bridgerton prequel last year. This time, she’s returning to the silver screen with a new role.
The 22-year-old has been cast as Fiona in the coming-of-age movie Into The Deep Blue. Damian Hardung will also be playing the role of her best friend Nick. The film is from writer and author Jennifer Archer, who was selected for the 2022 Nicholl Fellowship by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The story follows best friends Nick and Fiona, who met in group therapy and are struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives after loss. But during a weekend trip away, feelings begin to surface. The last thing they need right now is to fall in love.
The film will be shot in the UK and directed by Awakening the Zodiac’s Jonathan Wright. Child actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter was previously attached to the project, as announced in November 2022.
Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter had previously been set to star but we understand she is no longer attached to the project.
Deadline previously reported the Espresso singer would play Fiona, “a young woman dealing with the loss of her mother, anxiety and a complicated relationship with her best friend, Nick, whom she met in grief therapy”.
Having supported Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour earlier this year, the singer has recently announced her own European tour for 2025.
The singer bagged her first ever US Billboard number one with Please Please Please earlier this year. It is understood she is no longer part of Into The Deep Blue.
Into The Deep Blue producer Aletha Shepherd said of the latest update: “We are thrilled to bring together such a fabulous cast for this remarkable script.
“It’s such a joy working with such talents, especially when we know we have something truly special on our hands. We are excited to find the right home and partner to make sure this film garners the success it deserves.”
