NCIS may not be promising a Nick Torres and Jessica Knight romance—but it’s definitely not avoiding the idea either.
Showrunner Steven D. Binder explained that the characters’ emotions are intentionally grounded in truth. According to him, situations like the pair’s recent survival scene naturally raise questions about what they might be feeling, especially after years as partners.
Wilmer Valderrama described the storyline as leaving “breadcrumbs” rather than delivering clear answers, while Katrina Law praised the writers for keeping Knight’s personal future unpredictable.
Of course, any romance would come with complications. Knight’s past relationship with Jimmy Palmer—and Torres’ connection to Knight’s sister—adds layers the show can’t ignore.
Still, Binder insists the series isn’t teasing viewers unfairly. The emotions are real, the possibilities are real, and whatever happens next will grow from that honesty.
