It’s hard to believe someone was never caught by Bernadette’s cuteness.
Launched back in 2007, The Big Bang Theory saw lots of its characters come and go throughout its long-standing run, but some of them just got too much love from viewers to leave the show after all.
The sitcom’s season 3 introduced Bernadette and Amy, two more future lead characters who eventually would join the nerdy friend group as Howard and Sheldon’s girlfriends, respectively.
It’s fair to say that years after The Big Bang Theory ended, Bernadette’s actress Melissa Rauch remains a fan-favorite cutie whose charming appearance and tough character will always be one of the show’s best combinations ever, but back in the day Rauch had way less luck — and all that due to a physical trait.
The time that the actress spent on The Big Bang Theory made it clear that Rauch was like no one else portraying a seemingly delicate female character whose tantrums even her husband Howard couldn’t handle every so often, but things weren’t like that before she landed her most iconic role.
Recalling some of the essential moments of her career, Rauch brought up the harsh backlash she once received after auditioning for a role in a commercial.
The actress clarified that back then the job was very important to her and losing it for quite a weird reason made her feel like there was something wrong with her physical aspects, specifically her hands.
Talking about the time she was considered for the job, Rauch admitted that “when I was first auditioning and going out for commercials, my hands really stood in the way. I sort of have Hobbit hands….”
She continued saying that the director was pretty concerned after asking the actress to show her hands to the camera, “I did that and I heard the director from behind the camera go, ‘Jesus Christ!’ I didn’t get the job.”
Industry standards might be tough, but The Big Bang Theory’s fans surely never thought of Melissa Rauch’s hands as a flaw — in fact, that came as the actress’ special trait on the show and only highlighted her tiny physique.
Needless to say, Rauch’s career skyrocketed after adding Bernadette’s role to its list, so the controversial commercial may have lost a lot.
