The Big Bang Theory is no stranger to bringing in some A-list talent as guest stars in its entire run. The show almost had Sandra Bullock in the finale.
Sandra Bullock has been a leading Hollywood actress since the 90s and has starred in some of the most popular films of all time. From her scene-stealing role in Sylvester Stallone’s Demolition Man, she made her breakthrough in Keanu Reeves’ Speed. Her leading roles in Miss Congeniality, Crash, The Blind Side, and Gravity established her as a bankable movie star.
In addition to being the lead in most of her films, Bullock also featured in a memorable cameo in Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train. The actress was originally planned to be a guest star in the series finale of The Big Bang Theory. However, she couldn’t make any dates for the show as she was already busy shooting a film at the time.
The Big Bang Theory Almost Had Sandra Bullock As Raj’s Date in The Series Finale
Throughout its entire run, The Big Bang Theory has had some big celebrity guest stars who have played pivotal roles in the show. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Stephen Hawking, Stan Lee, etc., have appeared in the show and added to its amusing vibe. The show aimed for more celebrity cameos towards the end of the series.
One of the running jokes that involves the character of Kunal Nayyar’s Raj is that he is a huge fan of Sandra Bullock and her films. During the series finale featuring Sheldon and Amy’s Nobel Prize ceremony, Raj was supposed to have Bullock as his ‘date’ in the original treatment, which would have brought the joke full circle.
The executive producer of the show, Steve Holland, told TV Line that the Speed actress was indeed approached to make a guest appearance in the finale of the show. However, Bullock was already busy shooting a film at the time and politely declined their request to be on the show. Holland said,
Sandra Bullock was actually our first go-to because of Koothrappali’s long love of her. We were really excited about it, but we got a polite decline because she was shooting a movie and wasn’t available. But we were very excited Sarah was available to come on.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar was ultimately cast in the role of Raj’s date in the finale. It would have been great if Bullock had made a guest appearance on the show as it would have been a wonderful character moment for Raj and she is also very good at comedy. Nevertheless, Gellar did a fine job replacing Bullock in the episode.
