A Reddit user criticized Chuck Lorre for transforming Penny and Bernadette horribly in the later seasons who mistreated their husbands.
The Big Bang Theory, with its humorous jargon and quips, was a groundbreaking show that captured the hearts of millions. The early seasons of the show were filled with evolving relationships and intricate dynamics between Leonard, Penny, Bernadette, and Howard.
However, the later seasons turned the entire story arc upside down by shifting the tone of the leading ladies as soon as they embarked on their professional success. The same issue was recently raised by a fan on Reddit, who then went on to criticize Chuck Lorre for messing up the later seasons of the hit sitcom.
Reddit User Feels Chuck Lorre Ruined the Later Seasons of The Big Bang Theory
Chuck Lorre is undoubtedly a big name in the industry, with several hit sitcoms under his belt. In this list, however, The Big Bang Theory definitely stands the tallest. While it’s a beloved show, still loved by many, a fan on Reddit pointed out how Lorre, in his view, is a bad writer who ruined the later seasons of the sitcom.
In his post, the user mentioned how the co-creator made Jim Parsons‘ Sheldon Cooper “a dirt bag” and transformed Penny and Bernadette to horrible spouses in the later seasons. For this, they gave the reasoning that they were “treating their spouses like crap because they think they’re hotter and make more money.”
He also gave an instance, on how Penny was getting rid of Leonard’s stuff without his knowledge in Season 10, Episode 7, titled The Veracity Elasticity. Further, she has no regard or emotions for how her husband will feel once he finds out all of his stuff is missing. The user also brought in the main issue with Chuck Lorre and added that instead of writing situational comedy, the creator focuses more on “stupid jokes that aren’t funny.”
These comments were not just limited to Lorre and the leading ladies but also extended to the presentation of mothers on the show. He added he doesn’t quite understand why Lorre “writes crappy mothers in his shows. In TBBT: Beverly, Mary (also in Young Sheldon), Debbie, Mrs. Koothrappali.
Chuck Lorre Believes Multi-Camera Setups Are Not Going Away Anytime Soon
Chuck Lorre is truly authentic when it comes to filming his sitcoms. Most of his shows are multi-camera sitcoms that feature a live studio. Further, the laughter that the viewers watch on screen is not pre-recorded but rather filmed live. But while Lorre admits this was the main cause of his stress while filming The Big Bang Theory, he also appreciates the quick feedback it provides.
This quick response helps him in understanding what works for a show and what doesn’t. In an exclusive interview with The Wrap, the co-creator talked about why he feels multi-camera setups are not fading away anytime soon. He added:
If you’ve been to tapings, you know that silence is horrifying. But it tells you that you’ve made a mistake.
Chuck Lorre further added that the real-time response helps him adjust and redefine his comedic approach. However, the multi-camera method is not just limited to his sitcoms; several other shows have also embraced the same.
For instance, NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez and Extended Family have also used a live audience model. So, clearly, as mentioned by Lorre, this format still remains relevant in the television industry.
