NCIS fans may have said goodbye to Leon Vance, but Rocky Carroll isn’t leaving the franchise behind. Just weeks after his emotional exit from the long-running CBS drama in March 2026, the actor has already returned—this time in a different role.
CBS confirmed that Carroll directed Season 23’s April 14 episode, titled “S.O.S.”, marking his latest contribution behind the camera. The installment follows the team as they investigate a Navy lieutenant previously believed lost in a plane crash, only to uncover evidence suggesting something far more suspicious.
Carroll’s directing return isn’t new territory. Over the years, he has helmed an impressive 29 episodes of NCIS, becoming one of the show’s most trusted creative voices off-screen as well as on.
Although Leon Vance’s story has come to a close, Carroll’s continued presence proves he remains an important part of the NCIS family—just in a new and exciting way. 👏
