Young Sheldon has officially wrapped after seven seasons on the air, and fans are feeling a certain way about their favorite series no longer being on TV.
The series finale of the CBS sitcom premiered on May 16, and longtime viewers were stunned to learn the entirety of the Young Sheldon series was actually a memoir adult Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) was writing after the events of the show’s predecessor The Big Bang Theory. As the show shared on Instagram ahead of the episode, fans watched as Sheldon and his wife Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) make an appearance to share the revelation, giving way to what would be an emotional installment for both characters and fans alike.
“Sheldon’s memoir gets its final chapter tonight. ❤️,” read the caption alongside the preview.
When the episode later aired that night on CBS, folks went to the comments section to voice their sadness over the show ending.
“Gonna go cry real quick brb,” one person emotionally wrote. “The finale broke me 😔,” another lamented. “I think the only thing that can cure our heartbreak is having a spinoff of Sheldon and Amy’s family 😭😭😭😭😭,” a different follower added, begging for another series in the Cooper family universe.
As fans of the show know, the final episode of Young Sheldon featured the Cooper family reeling over the news of patriarch George (Lance Barber)’s unexpected death from a heart attack. This leads to the group struggling through grieving him, with 14-year-old Sheldon (Iain Armitage) making the decision to move to Pasadena, California and attend college at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
What’s more, Young Sheldon also gave way to how Sheldon and Amy fared after the events of The Big Bang Theory, which ended after 12 seasons in 2019.
As viewers learned, Sheldon and Amy have two children (including a son named Leonard!), and both are looking to explore interests outside of science. While the two were getting ready to attend their son’s hockey game (which Sheldon wasn’t too thrilled about), Amy revealed their daughter was interested in taking acting classes, which prompted Sheldon to utter a hilarious line. “I told you we never should’ve let Penny babysit.”
While Sheldon’s story is all done (for now), there’s still more to explore with the Cooper family. CBS announced a new spinoff airing this fall, titled Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, that will follow Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy Cooper (Emily Osment) as they experience being married and new parents.
