“Don’t Chase My Shadow, Son”: Gordon Ramsay Gives Honest Career Advice to Jack After Leaving the Royal Marines

Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the heartfelt conversations he’s having with his eldest son Jack Ramsay now that the 27-year-old has officially left the Royal Marines and returned to civilian life.

In a candid new interview and a series of family moments shared on social media, the famously fiery chef revealed he is actively guiding Jack on his next steps — but with one clear message: “Don’t feel pressured to follow in my footsteps.”

“Jack has just finished nearly six years with the Marines — the toughest training and service you can imagine,” Gordon said. “He’s proven himself as a man of real discipline and strength. Now he’s home, married, and about to become a dad. This is a big transition, and I’m sitting down with him properly to talk about what comes next.”

Gordon admitted he has offered Jack several options, but is careful not to push the high-pressure world of professional kitchens. “I told him straight: you don’t have to come into the restaurants if you don’t want to. I never wanted my ambition to be a burden on any of my kids — especially Jack. Imagine walking into a kitchen and everyone thinking ‘that’s Gordon Ramsay’s son’. That’s not fair.”

Instead, Gordon says he’s encouraging Jack to explore paths that suit his personality and skills gained from military service:

  • Fitness and performance training
  • Leadership or mentoring programmes for young people
  • Security or risk management roles
  • Even starting his own business away from the spotlight

“He’s got incredible discipline, calmness under pressure, and real leadership qualities from the Marines,” Gordon added with clear pride. “Those are transferable skills that can take him anywhere. If he wants to dip his toe into the food world, the door is always open — maybe on the operations or training side, not necessarily standing at the pass getting shouted at.”

Fans have reacted warmly to Gordon’s protective and respectful approach. Many comments praised the chef for showing a thoughtful, modern-dad side: “Gordon not forcing Jack into cooking is class,” “Jack deserves to choose his own path after serving his country,” and “This is the best kind of fatherly advice.”

Jack, who has always preferred to stay out of the public eye, has not commented publicly yet. The couple is currently preparing for the arrival of their first child later this year, and sources say the focus right now is on family and giving Jack time to readjust to civilian life.

Tana Ramsay also shared her thoughts quietly: “We’re so proud of everything Jack has achieved. Whatever he chooses next, we’ll support him 100%. He’s earned the right to decide his own future.”

Gordon ended the conversation with his typical mix of blunt honesty and warmth: “Jack’s not a kid anymore. He’s a husband, soon-to-be father, and a man who’s already served his country with honour. My job now is to help him find something he loves — not something that makes people compare him to me. That’s the least I can do.”

As the Ramsay family continues to grow and evolve in 2026, this father-son chapter feels especially meaningful. After years of Gordon shouting orders in chaotic kitchens, he’s now using that same passion to quietly guide his son toward a future that truly fits him.
