I’m Certain The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner Encourages The Online Shade (The Negativity Gets Him Attention)

The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner has been documenting his life, and though he gets far more online shade thrown his way, I believe he encourages the commentary. Gerry, who was introduced as the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 1 before the season’s premiere in the fall of 2023, has been the talk of the franchise after his tumultuous appearance on the series. Although Gerry met a group of wonderful women on The Golden Bachelor, he fell for and got engaged to Theresa Nist by the season’s end. The pair announced a live TV wedding shortly after the finale.

With just a few short weeks between The Golden Bachelor’s season finale and Gerry’s wedding to Theresa, scandalous information began to emerge about Gerry leading up to the wedding. Feeling deceived, Bachelor Nation wasn’t sure what to believe as the wedding came and went. When Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce after just three months of marriage, Bachelor Nation was stunned but realized that the split tarnished Gerry’s reputation, sending former fans to his comments to complain. While it’s not entirely confirmed that Gerry enjoys the shade thrown at him, I believe the abundance of negativity is something Gerry likes.

Gerry Hasn’t Apologized Or Taken A Break After The Golden Bachelor
He’s On Instagram Far Too Often

After The Golden Bachelor finale, Gerry responded to some of the allegations thrown at him by an ex-girlfriend who chose to remain anonymous in the press, trying to dispel rumors that his behavior had been less-than-savory. While Gerry spoke to the press a bit about the rumors and about his feelings post-divorce, he hasn’t spoken out on the record anywhere else, but he’s consistently posting on his Instagram account. Rather than answering the questions Bachelor Nation is dying to hear about, Gerry shares photos of his life on the platform.

I believe that his choice not to take a break from posting, or further, not bothering to share an apology post about the events that unfolded after The Golden Bachelor, is an odd choice for Gerry. He consistently shares photos of what’s happening in his life on his Instagram, but he doesn’t want the people who follow him to hear his genuine feelings about the show or his relationship’s quick end. It feels fishy to me that Gerry hasn’t apologized, taken a break, or at least acknowledged the scandal, but instead posts mundane content that elicits an abundance of negativity.

Gerry Engages With Negative Comments On His Posts
He Replies To The Negativity

While it’s irritating to see Gerry moving normally on social media as though he didn’t deceive an entire viewership, the fact that he engages with the shady comments he gets online is even more irksome. Gerry consistently replies to comments on his Instagram account, including the shady ones, despite knowing they’ll bother him. While Gerry tries to make light of the negative comments or reply to them in a way that makes him seem indifferent, it’s clear the replies are meant to encourage a dialogue. Gerry’s need to engage with negative comments makes me wonder what the plus side is.

Gerry May Be Getting Something Out Of Interacting With The Shade
He Enjoys Hearing People Tear Him Down

Gerry likely replies to the derogatory comments to try and cement his place on his own socials, but it seems like he’s getting some sort of gratification out of the negativity. Gerry consistently eggs on the negativity, replying to shady comments and asking questions that would encourage the original commenters to continue the conversation. Most reality TV stars are prone to ignoring the comments, but Gerry’s behavior after The Golden Bachelor has led him to try to coerce them into a chat. I believe he’s enjoying the negative interactions he has, especially since it keeps The Golden Bachelor star relevant.
