It’s hard to believe that Chicago Fire has been burning strong for 14 seasons and Chicago P.D. is deep into Season 13. While the alarms still ring on Wednesday nights, a lot has changed for the actors behind the badges and turnout gear. Here’s a heartfelt, up-to-date look at where your favorite first responders and cops are in real life right now.
Taylor Kinney (Lt. Kelly Severide – Chicago Fire) Still living in Chicago and very much a series regular, but he’s deliberately scaled back. When not filming, Kinney spends his days working out, walking his two rescue dogs, playing music in his home studio, and volunteering with firefighter charities. He recently admitted he’s “in need of a change” and appears to be protecting his peace more than ever.
Jesse Spencer (Matt Casey – Chicago Fire) Officially retired from acting. After wrapping his Disney+ series Last Days of the Space Age, Spencer has stepped away from the industry to focus entirely on his wife and children in Australia. He says the decision was difficult but necessary, and he has no plans to return to television full-time.
Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek – Chicago P.D.) Lives a very low-key, almost off-grid life. When he’s not filming, Flueger disappears to his cabin in northern Wisconsin to fish, hunt, restore classic motorcycles, and play drums in a secret rock band with friends. He’s a devoted dad who coaches his kids’ sports teams and avoids social media almost completely.
Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess – Chicago P.D.) Balancing motherhood of two young children with her full-time role on the show. Married to attorney Eli Kay-Oliphant, she keeps her kids largely out of the spotlight but has become a quiet inspiration for working moms. She starts most days with meditation and relies heavily on family support during long filming weeks.
Jason Beghe (Hank Voight – Chicago P.D.) Still the anchor of Chicago P.D., but recent episodes have shown a noticeable reduction in his physical screen time due to ongoing health issues. He remains deeply committed to the show while focusing on recovery and privacy. Co-stars have rallied around him with quiet support.
Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay Halstead – Chicago P.D.) No longer a series regular, but stays closely connected. He continues directing episodes of Chicago P.D., travels frequently (hiking, surfing, road trips), plays guitar, cooks, and volunteers with veterans’ organizations. He and Tracy Spiridakos are raising their adopted puppy Cali together and appear very happy.
Tracy Spiridakos (Hailey Upton – Chicago P.D.) Living between Chicago and Los Angeles. After leaving as a regular, she returned for the big 2026 crossover and continues to act selectively. She and Soffer’s close relationship (including their joint puppy adoption) has fans convinced the on-screen couple found real-life happiness too.
Eamonn Walker (Chief Wallace Boden – Chicago Fire) Mostly based in London now with his family. He returns for select guest appearances as Deputy Commissioner Boden and has said “If they write it, I’ll come.” He remains beloved and respected by the entire One Chicago cast.
The rest of the ensemble — Miranda Rae Mayo, Joe Minoso, LaRoyce Hawkins, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, and others — continue to call Chicago home, staying active with charity work, family life, and occasional side projects while keeping the Wednesday night block alive.
Many of the original cast members have moved on or stepped back, but the bond they built over more than a decade remains strong. Whether they’re raising kids, restoring motorcycles, directing, traveling the world, or simply enjoying a slower pace, one thing is clear: the men and women who made Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. feel like family are still living with the same heart, loyalty, and resilience they showed on screen.
The sirens may have quieted for some, but the love for these characters — and the actors behind them — burns as brightly as ever.
