Netflix’s fan-favorite soap opera Virgin River returns soon for its seventh season. Fans can expect plenty of drama in the premiere, including a shocking death and a murder mystery to kick off Season 7.

Based on the bestselling 22-novel romance series by Robyn Carr, Virgin River follows Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner who moves to the small Northern California town and falls in love with bar owner Jack (Martin Henderson).

Season 6 followed the lead-up to Mel and Jack’s nuptials, with the finale showing their long-awaited wedding. Their dream of becoming parents also began to take shape when one of Mel’s patients told them she wanted to place her baby with them in Virgin River.

The next chapter will continue to explore the married couple and the “honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Netflix’s Tudum in November.

“Mel came to Virgin River expecting the cabin to be farmhouse chic, and now she’s living in a farmhouse. What does that mean for her character? She continues to be a fish out of water and [is] constantly taking herself out of her comfort zone,” Smith said, adding that Season 7 will also take the pair’s “parenthood journey to the next level of exploring adoption.”

Here’s everything to know about watching Season 7 of Virgin River, including the release date and time, how to watch and a refresher on Season 6’s cliffhanger ending.

At the end of Season 6, Jack checks on his ex, Charmaine, after she misses the wedding where she was supposed to do Mel’s hair. When Jack gets to her house, he opens a door and is shocked by what he sees, ending the season on a cliffhanger. On March 10, Netflix released the first five minutes of Season 7 on Tudum, revealing a surprising discovery.

In the opening of Season 6, Jack discovers drug kingpin and Charmaine’s baby daddy Calvin is dead. Charmaine and her twin babies are also missing.

“When we committed to the cliff-hanger of Season 6 with Charmaine not showing up at the wedding, and spent all season planting seeds of danger for her, we went back and forth on, what did Jack see? Who did he see? Did he see anything?” Smith told Tudum.

In Season 7, Episode 7, viewers will watch as Brie and Mike team up to find Charmaine and learn how she is connected to Calvin’s death. The episode also follows the residents of Virgin River in the days after Mel and Jack’s wedding, as the couple begins “earnest steps forward in parenthood and start to experience the adoption process,” Smith added.
