Shocking: Actor Michael Weatherly embroiled in infidelity allegations, his image as a “perfect husband” shaken? md20

The NCIS writers have thrown fans many unexpected curveballs over the years, but the latest twist in the long-running crime drama’s journey has left fans in a state of panic.

NCIS season 23, episode 12, “In Too Deep,” brought about an unexpected development in the personal life of one long-time member, which on its own should have been the most shocking moment of the episode. However, learning that one agent on the team had a long-lost son was somehow not the biggest revelation from the hour.

While redoing their weapons certification, things got heated between Vance and Parker as Parker implied that Vance had turned his back on the team. Vance quickly makes it clear that this could not be further from the reality, as he’s been fighting for them all amid the rumor that the Army CID is being shut down and folded into NCIS, which could bring about cuts. It might have seemed as though Vance had given up on the team, but he’s actually been doing everything he could to protect their jobs.

Sadly, Vance’s efforts proved to be for naught, as he’d come to learn that the rumors that Army CID was being shut down were wrong. It’s actually NCIS that is being shut down after 34 years.

NCIS is not canceled: CBS has already renewed the show for season 24

With NCIS season 23, episode 12 establishing that NCIS is being shut down, fans were immediately sent into a frenzy with surges in searches for “Is NCIS canceled?” as fans raced for answers. The answer is simple: NCIS the agency might be getting shut down, but NCIS the show is not going anywhere!

CBS has already renewed NCIS for season 24, which will air as part of the 2026-27 TV season. The series was one of 10 shows renewed in January, when CBS handed out renewals to the majority of its hit series.

It’s understandable that there was a surge of panic among the fans about the show coming to an end when Vance revealed that NCIS was being shut down. However, fans do not have to worry; while NCIS’s future as an agency might be in jeopardy, the show is not going anywhere, and this storyline is not designed as part of some endgame to close the book on the show after all these years.

Heading into the 500th episode of NCIS, it’s going to be interesting to see how this storyline plays out and whether the decision is reversed just as quickly as it was revealed. Little information was given by Vance in episode 12 as to why NCIS ended up on the chopping block. We have to imagine with the show continuing that the writers have a storyline to resolve the storyline, but we have to wonder how quickly it might be resolved.

We fully expect that there will be some repercussions that come with the resolution of the storyline. After all, you can’t just announce that NCIS is being dissolved only to then act as though nothing has happened. Abandoning the storyline would feel like a disservice to the fans, so there have to be some consequences of some kind.

One thing that does have us concerned is whether saving NCIS could result in budget cuts to the NCIS agency that jeopardize the future of the team. With a show that is 24 seasons in, we have to wonder whether this storyline could lead to a cast shakeup, which seems possible given we haven’t had any major casting changes on the show in several seasons now. Hopefully, it won’t come to that, but it’s a fear that is going to linger as we wait to see what the upcoming episodes bring as we race towards the season finale!
