If Gordon Ramsay hadn’t been a chef, would we have seen him play in Serie A?

Gordon Ramsay is one of the most famous chefs in the world, but how many people know about his footballing past?

Our question is only half a provocation. No bizarre theories from the Butterfly effect or from multiverses more or less distant from ours: Gordon Ramsay, before embarking on a career as a chef, was a promising young player in Scottish football.

Let’s be serious: our protagonist even wore the youth shirt of Glasgow Rangers, one of the most successful and famous teams in Scotland. Then something went wrong, that bolt from the blue that apparently compromised the careers of countless provincial jugglers: a bad knee injury, which basically forced him to hang up his boots.

The passion for football and the surprise of MasterChef

Ramsay’s footballing career thus ended in a what if, in a “what would have been”. Of course, in pursuing his career as a chef we can say that Ramsay still managed to gain some satisfaction, but we imagine that the passion for football remained alive and well in his mind.

Any clues? Well, just over a year ago he announced the opening of a restaurant in the Glasgow Rangers stadium, a team for which he had played and of which he is still a die-hard fan. In the last few days, then, the English edition of MasterChef took him and his MasterClass directly to the Los Angeles FC stadium for a particular outdoor test… And Gordon naturally took the opportunity to kick a ball a couple of times.

The clips were then republished by Ramsay himself on his Instagram profile: our protagonist advances from midfield towards the goal, dribbling and without ever letting the ball touch the ground, under the eyes of Joe Bastianich in the unlikely role of referee.

Then the shot on goal: one, two knee strikes and then a left-footed volley. Let’s be honest: the trajectory of the ball seemed destined to end in the stands, if not directly in a neighboring state. Tactical cut, editing, and the ball ends up in the net: at VAR they say they didn’t see anything suspicious.
