Sad news from Hollywood: Star Martin Henderson has been found dead at his residence md20

Virgin River season 7 began with the shocking death of a character.

The season 6 finale was primarily focused on the wedding of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson), but the episode ended on a disturbing cliffhanger.

Mel and Jack were surrounded by family and friends on their big day. That said, there was one notably absent person, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), a friend and local hairstylist who was supposed to help Mel and her bridesmaids get ready for the wedding.

The next day, Jack went to check on Charmaine, but when he arrived at her house, the place was in disarray, and Charmaine was nowhere to be found. He then opened the nursery of Charmaine’s twin babies and the episode cut to black before it was revealed what Jack found on the other side of the door.

“When we committed to the cliffhanger of season 6 with Charmaine not showing up at the wedding, and spent all season planting seeds of danger for her, we went back and forth on, what did Jack see? Who did he see? Did he see anything?” Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum in March 2026.

The mystery of what Jack discovered was answered in the first minutes of season 7: Jack had accidentally entered a crime scene, and found someone dead.

So, who was killed in Virgin River? Here’s everything to know about the character’s death.

In the Virgin River season 7 premiere, it is confirmed that Calvin (Josh Blacker) was killed.

Calvin was a dangerous drug dealer who was the father of Charmaine’s twins as revealed in season 5.

During the final moments of season 6, Jack went over to Charmaine’s house to check on her, and when he opened the door of her nursery, he found the body of Calvin, who had been shot and killed.

By that point, Charmaine had fled the scene with her babies.

Calvin was killed by Grant (Alessandro Juliani), the owner of the hair salon where Charmaine used to work.

In season 7, episode 8, “Back in the Saddle,” Grant and Charmaine tell Brie (Zibby Allen) what happened, and how Calvin was murdered.

“Calvin thought something was happening between me and Grant. He didn’t want any man around me or the twins,” Charmaine explained to Brie. “And he came to take them, and I tried to stop Calvin … I didn’t shoot Calvin.”

In a flashback, Calvin is shown attacking Charmaine, trying to take the children at gunpoint. Grant then enters the nursery behind Calvin, grabs Calvin’s gun and shoots him dead.

“I was protecting her. I had no other choice,” Grant said. “Calvin would never have stopped trying to get the boys away from you. I was protecting them too. I didn’t know what else to do.”

Calvin was killed because he was a dangerous and threatening presence in the lives of Charmaine and her babies.

Smith told TVLine that Calvin’s death was a “convenient” way to end the character’s story.

Calvin “has already come back from the dead and wants his children and has murdered people,” Smith told the outlet, adding that the character was recast in season 6 “as well, so it just felt like an opportunity to clean that out.”

Calvin was previously thought to have died in a boat explosion in season 4, but he was confirmed to be alive in season 5.

Virgin River season 7 is streaming on Netflix now.
