David J. North has signed a new overall deal with CBS Studios, further solidifying his role within the “NCIS” franchise.
North currently serves as co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of “NCIS: Origins,” which is airing its second season and has already secured a Season 3 renewal. Under the new agreement, he will remain showrunner for the upcoming third season. Meanwhile, co-creator and co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal is set to exit the series at the end of Season 2.
As part of the deal, North will develop and produce projects for both broadcast and streaming platforms at CBS Studios. “NCIS: Origins” returns from its winter hiatus on March 3.
North began his television career as support staff on the original “NCIS” before rising through the ranks to become a writer and producer. After working on series including “Rizzoli & Isles,” “Scorpion,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” he returned to “NCIS” in Season 14 as executive producer and co-showrunner, staying through Season 21 before launching “NCIS: Origins.”
The prequel centers on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell, with Mark Harmon — who played Gibbs in the original series — serving as an executive producer alongside Sean Harmon, North, and Monreal.
