Dakota Johnson: The production of ’50 Shades of Grey’ was absolutely crazy
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dakota Johnson revealed that behind the scenes of the production of 50 Shades there was a lot of controversy. However, after all, she still does not regret participating in this “hot” series.
Dakota Johnson became an international star after being cast as the female lead Anastasia Steele in the three Fifty Shades films. In a conversation with Vanity Fair published on June 28, the 33-year-old beauty shared that the process of completing the series became complicated and made everyone psychotic, partly because the author of the original plot – female writer E.L. James. “I signed on to do a very different version of the movie we had already made,” she said. E.L. James has a lot of control over the creation of the work at all times. She often asks for certain things to happen. There were parts of the book that weren’t suitable for the movie, like the incredibly cheesy interior monologue. There will be no effect when they are read aloud. It’s always a tense battle. It’s always been like that.”
The actress, born in 1989, said making three parts of 50 Shades of Gray became “something really crazy”. The beauty continued: “There were a lot of disagreements during the production process. I have never been able to speak honestly about this because I wanted to promote the work properly and I am proud of what we did until the end and everything turned out as expected, it was difficult. She revealed how the production team overcame disagreements with the original series creator: “We did the scenes that James wanted and then did the scenes that we wanted. The night before, I’ll rewrite old dialogue scenes to add a few lines here and there. Everything is always in disarray.”
Despite having to endure heated battles over disagreements behind the scenes, Dakota Johnson said she has no regrets about participating in the project and has no ill will towards E.L. James. The 8X beauty added that the work helps her career and that she feels lucky to participate in 50 Shades of Gray even though sometimes things are a bit strange and confusing.
“If I had known that the filming process would turn out like this at the time, I don’t think anyone would have accepted it. Everything is really confusing. But I don’t regret doing it… There are things that I haven’t been able to say because I don’t want to damage anyone’s career or reputation but both Jamie Dornan and I were treated very well. James is a kind woman, she always treats me well and I’m grateful that she wanted me to be in those movies,” Dakota confided.
Fifty Shades is a romantic erotic work produced based on the book series of the same name by female writer E.L. James. The film includes three parts: Fifty Shades of Gray (2015), Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018), revolving around the love story between innocent young girl Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) and sadistic billionaire Christian. Gray (Jamie Dornan). The two accidentally met, were attracted to each other, then plunged into a relationship filled with lust and gradually found love and understanding for the other half.
