Jim Parsons’ Turbulent Journey to the 89th Academy Awards

Jim Parsons was likely thrilled to join his co-stars from the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures at the 2017 Academy Awards. However, the night didn’t begin as he had anticipated.

Taking to Instagram to share updates about the night, he revealed that he was almost barred from the ceremony after he forgot his ID at home. When he returned to retrieve it, he was surprised to find himself locked out of the house.

The actor said in a now-deleted Instagram post, as per Just Jared,

Locked out of house without ID which, apparently, you need to get into the Oscars… waiting on someone to get here and let me in… Academy Awards, 2017… off to an auspicious beginning…!

Adding to the updates, the actor also shared a snap of his dogs inside the house. And in true Sheldon Cooper fashion, he humorously captioned the image, “Why didn’t I teach them how to work a lock on a door???”

Following over an hour-long ordeal, he was eventually able to get into the Oscars with the help of Melissa McNeely and was able to join his co-stars on the Academy Awards red carpet.

Jim Parsons Finds Working With an Ensemble Rewarding

In a previous interview with Variety, Jim Parsons shared his experience working with ensemble casts. From The Big Bang Theory to his powerful performances in The Normal Heart and Hidden Figures, the actor has consistently found himself working with strong ensembles.

When asked about the same, he said, “Maybe subconsciously. I do find again and again that the most rewarding things for me have strong ensembles.”

Talking about Hidden Figures, the Emmy winner also shared that working on films based on true and significant moments in human history has left a profound impact on him.

Part of it is that they’re both based on true stories and hugely important moments in human history. And part of it is feeling the job of being an integral part of a machine telling the story in the ensemble.

Based on the 2016 book of the same name, Hidden Figures shares the story of African American female mathematicians at NASA, who played pivotal roles in astronaut John Glenn’s launch into orbit.
