Filming Begins On The Young Sheldon Spinoff
With news concerning the Young Sheldon spinoff continuing to pour in, the latest update confirms that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has begun filming. With the show currently slated to be part of CBS’ fall 2024 slate, the highly-anticipated continuation is rushing into production in June 2024. In a story posted on her official Instagram page, producer Steph Spetrino shared an image of the exterior of the Warner Bros. soundstage 25 featuring a plaque commemorating the production of The Big Bang Theory. On the ground, the parking spaces are painted with “GMFM”, designating them for cast and crew only.

Unlike the spinoff of The Big Bang Theory that is still uncertain, the spinoff for Young Sheldon was officially announced in January 2024. In order to fill the major void that will be left behind on CBS after Young Sheldon goes off the air following season 7, the network is developing a spinoff that will feature the characters of Georgie and Mandy. The series will be multi-camera, bringing it more in line with the traditional sitcom format, unlike Young Sheldon which is single-camera. The series has Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon alums Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland and Steven Molaro attached as producers.

Montana Jordan & Emily Osment Return
Since the spinoff will center on Georgie and Mandy, Montana Jordan and Emily Osment will return to their respective roles. At this juncture, it is uncertain if Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) will even appear in his own spinoff. On the other hand, it stands to reason that any of the Texas-based Young Sheldon characters could return. However, one Young Sheldon star who will not be returning is Raegan Revord, who expressed her desire to get away from the Missy character and evolve beyond her years as a child actor.
The cast of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage grew with the announcement that Young Sheldon stars Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones will appear in the spinoff as Mandy’s parents. Jim and Audrey McAllister will play large roles in the upcoming series, and will appear in a recurring capacity. Georgie and Mandy’s daughter Cece will also presumably appear, but infant characters are often played by several actors.

What Happens In The Spinoff?
While exact details about the spinoff’s story haven’t been revealed yet, it is known that it will focus on Georgie and Mandy as they embark on their new lives as parents. It has been confirmed that the Georgie and Mandy spinoff will introduce Mandy’s family into the equation, something largely absent in Young Sheldon. With most of the cast of the aforementioned Young Sheldon unlikely to appear, Mandy’s family will need to take center stage and fill in the gaps.
It is known from details revealed in The Big Bang Theory that Georgie and Mandy’s relationship ends in divorce, so it is unclear how the new spinoff will tackle such a dark storyline. Likewise, if it has any hopes of lasting as long as its predecessor, it will need to find a way to stretch the storyline out even if their relationship deteriorates. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage could flesh out the demise of their relationship, or it could do a bit of historical revision and change the established canon of TBBT.
