‘Yellowstone’ really needs to redeem this one character with the series’ end right around the corner.
Taylor Sheridan has perfectly helmed the Yellowstone saga, bringing about such twists and turns that fans couldn’t imagine in their wildest dreams. But even then, there have been certain elements of the Western lore that even fans couldn’t help but point out seemed incredibly biased and unsatisfactory, like the mere existence and character arc of Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton in the story.
As fans have already seen one too many times in the blockbuster series, Bentley’s character hardly ever gets treated right, especially by his adopted father, John Dutton. That being said, since the show is already on the verge of its end, Sheridan needs to redeem this very character to bring a perfectly satisfying ending to the smash-hit saga following Costner’s leave.
Taylor Sheridan Needs to Redeem Jamie Before Yellowstone Ends
Although most of the series has been a true masterpiece that had viewers unable to put their respective devices down, this particular character arc written for Wes Bentley‘s Dutton had a lot of fans quite disappointed with the storyline. This is because they feel that this particular character has just never been made to be enough despite him giving his everything to prove his worth.
As Redditor r/MyCrazyXX pointed out in their post on the r/YellowstonePN subreddit, Jamie has always been treated offensively by the people he considered the closest to him. Not only is he “a double Harvard-educated lawyer who did everything asked of him,” but he was also “the good kid growing up, becomes Attorney General, and keeps the Duttons out of all sorts of messes.”
In response, he was met with nothing more than Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton “calling him his ‘greatest failure’ and ultimately refusing to acknowledge [him] as a son to his assistant, Clara.” Plus, even when he finds out that he isn’t John’s real son, John responds most insensitively toward him, telling him he “should be grateful we raised you instead of bouncing through the system.”
Further pointing out other sick examples of just how brutal of a character arc Taylor Sheridan has written for Bentley’s character, the Redditor continued to say:
[John] even tells [him] to commit suicide at one point, them berates him for almost doing so. Oh, then there is the time John steals the governorship from [him], as well as the time he beats the hell out of him for not answering his phone.
With all of this being discussed and acknowledging the fact that the series is about to hit its finale soon with Costner’s exit from it, it sounds like just about time that Sheridan finally redeems this particular character instead of further berating him at the hands of the other Duttons. If anything, this could be the perfect end to his story and the entire saga, and fans agree to the same.
Fans Feel Wes Bentley’s Character Needs to be Redeemed Now
Throughout the entirety of this series, Wes Bentley’s character has tried really, really hard to gain his adoptive father’s approval, but seems to never quite succeed. This is because no Dutton has been willing to treat him with the love and respect that he deserves and yearns for all along.
That said, fans have pointed out in the comment section just how they are pining for Bentley’s character because of the character arc written for him so far. Here’s what they’re saying:
All of this being said, it is unarguably evident that fans are rooting for this particular Dutton to finally shine in the way he had been yearning for all his life. That being put out there, it’s time Sheridan actually developed a final storyline for his saga that redeemed Bentley’s character instead of further deeming him unworthy of everything, the way the other Duttons treat him.
