– Gerry Turner’s past and credibility issues overshadow The Golden Bachelor’s success.
– Joan Vassos may not be the best choice for The Golden Bachelorette lead.
– The Golden Bachelorette faces an uphill battle due to Gerry’s inauthenticity and negative associations.
There are clues that The Golden Bachelorette won’t be successful, and it has to do with Gerry Turner. Gerry was the lead in the pilot season of The Golden Bachelor, and he was generally well-received until the end. Gerry met 22 senior women to start off The Golden Bachelor season 1, and he fell in love with three of those women.
Joan Vassos was one of the front-runners for Gerry’s heart, but she decided to leave the experience early to be there for her daughter who had just given birth. Joan’s early exit and relatability were two driving factors in the decision to make her the first female lead in The Golden Bachelorette. Her season starts filming in July and should be on air in the fall of 2024.
The Golden Bachelor Saw A Lot Of Success
But It has Since Been Overshadowed
The Golden Bachelor resonated with viewers in several ways. It was the first senior reality TV dating show, and it made its mark within Bachelor Nation. The Bachelor fans were excited for the representation in the older community and they cast the perfect lead in Gerry Turner.
Gerry, 72, lost his wife of 43 years to a bacterial infection shortly after she and Gerry bought their dream home in Indiana on a lake. Fans loved Gerry’s charisma, empathy, and genuine desire to find his match. While Gerry had to narrow it down to just one woman, The Golden Bachelor audience had time to get to know each woman vying for Gerry’s heart. However, the fallout from Gerry’s season overshadowed the motivation behind the show.
Gerry Turner Made The Golden Bachelor Lose Credibility
Gerry Told Some Lies
While Gerry was a likable lead and came across as genuine, certain things about his past have come to light that have caused him to lose credibility. Gerry claimed to have not dated since his wife’s passing in 2017, but his ex-girlfriend came forward to say that she and Gerry had dated shortly after his wife’s death and that he wasn’t as nice as the show painted him to be.
Because Gerry portrayed himself one way and his past was a different story, the show lost credibility in the process.
Joan Vassos Was Not The Best Lead Choice
There Were Other Good Options
While Joan is well-spoken with a backstory that resonated with viewers, she has a rigid idea of what she wants in a man (Bachelor Nation.) Joan also did not have enough screen time to win the hearts of The Golden Bachelor viewers like the other women of Gerry’s season did. Runner-up Leslie Fhima was left heartbroken by Gerry, but she also showed her resilient side and was an obvious choice for The Golden Bachelorette role. There were also plenty of stand-out women from The Golden Bachelor with bigger personalities who could have fit the role better.
The Golden Bachelorette Won’t Be As Entertaining
The Golden Bachelor Dropped The Ball
With Gerry’s divorce fresh in viewers’ minds, The Golden Bachelorette won’t seem as genuine. The lackluster choice of lead for The Golden Bachelorette coupled with the fallout and scandal of Gerry and Theresa Nist’s divorce makes this upcoming pilot season lose some of its entertainment value. It looks like Gerry’s inauthenticity and inability to maintain a relationship are dark clouds hanging over The Golden Bachelorette. While the show will likely draw viewers who were fond of The Golden Bachelor, there are too many negatives going against The Golden Bachelorette.
