The July Fourth holiday weekend is getting the blockbuster treatment at the Tomorrow Theater, the Southeast Portland outpost of the Portland Art Museum’s PAM CUT: Center for an Untold Tomorrow. Among the movies being screened are a pair of Oregon-filmed hits.
Following the Friday, July 5, screening of “The Goonies” at the Tomorrow Theater, the 2008 hit, “Twilight,” will screen on Saturday, July 6. As “Twihards” know, the movie was adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novel, and tells the story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), a human high school student, who falls for Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a moody, broody fellow who, she comes to find out, is a vampire.
Though the “Twilight” story is set in Forks, Washington, much of the filming took place on location in Oregon. “Twilight” was also the first in what became the “Twilight Saga” movie series, which chronicled the ongoing relationships between Bella, Edward, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a Native American who can turn into a wolf, and assorted other characters.
As with other movies in the “Blockbuster Weekend” series, the “Twilight” screening will be preceded by a round of “ShanRock’s Triviology,” a trivia contest presided over by Shannon Donaldson.
Other movies in the Tomorrow Theater “Blockbuster Weekend” series include “The Goonies” on Friday, July 5; “Jaws” at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 6; “Jurassic Park” at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7; and “Twister” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7.
The “Twilight”-plus-trivia screening, doors open at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 6, with trivia at 7:30 p.m., and the film at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $15. The Tomorrow Theater is at 3530 S.E. Division St.
