Virgin River fans are still reeling from the show’s jaw-dropping season six finale — and now Lauren Hammersley is adding fuel to the fire.
The actress, who plays Charmaine Roberts, recently took to Instagram to share screenshots of her playful text exchange with showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, revealing that even she isn’t convinced her character survives the cliffhanger.
After congratulating Smith on what she called a “stellar” sixth season, Hammersley followed up with a question many fans have been asking: what exactly happened to Charmaine? Joking that she might need to start looking for another job, the actress quipped, “So… IF Charmaine dies this year, could you please drown her in the river? I think that would be EPIC.”
The tongue-in-cheek message quickly caught fans’ attention, especially given how season six ended.
In the final moments of the episode, Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) grows concerned when Charmaine fails to show up to his wedding to Mel Monroe. Aware that Charmaine has been locked in a bitter custody battle with the father of her twin sons — convicted criminal Calvin — Mel urges Jack to check on her.
What he finds is deeply unsettling.
Charmaine’s front door is wide open, her kitchen shows signs of a struggle, and when Jack rushes to the nursery, he freezes — clearly stunned by whatever he sees inside. The episode cuts to black without revealing what happened, leaving viewers with one of the show’s most chilling cliffhangers yet.
Despite her jokes, Hammersley admits she genuinely fears for Charmaine’s fate. Still, she made it clear there’s nothing but love between her and the show’s executive producer. In the caption accompanying her post, she teased:
“I’m a professional. This is how I professionally manage a professional conversation with VR’s incredible showrunner, professionally. Because I’m PROFESSIONAL. I’m realizing this is the same tactic I use to figure out if I’m in a relationship or not. Love you Sean.”
