NTs love it bc they think it’s a great representation of autism. I get why some NDs like it too but I HATE IT .
I fucking hate this show, can’t even sit through it. It’s such an offensive off putting stereotypical way of representing autism in a working environment and it feels like a goddamn cash-grab.
They make the main character use his autism as an excuse for damn near everything that he does, basically showing that everyone with autism should be allowed to just be offensive and rude and tolerated because of it simply bc of their disability.
I get it they wanna show that people with autism don’t have to mask constantly to fit into society so yes that’s a great point, and a lot of my traits match his so it’s a little comforting to watch it play out in a real adult job setting, but the WAY the producers go about it just makes me skin crawl bc a lot of autistic people don’t act like that. They make this autistic man seem like he has no ability to function as a real person and only as a robot. Like autism is one thing and this is how it affects everyone, and that people with autism can’t possibly be capable of LEARNING beyond their neurodivergent norms and routines…UGH!
I know that some with autism do speak the way he speaks, and act the way he acts, no matter what. I know autism is a spectrum!!! BUT FUCK MAN, the other doctors in the hospital are always shown dealing with him and just being tired of him for the way he acts. It’s hurtful to sit there and watch tbh.
His blatant disrespect and homophobia is what gets me so bad, bc that shit is LEARNED behavior and definitely not connected with any autism diagnosis. he’s homophobic, transphobic, really rude and disrespectful and frankly, barely seems to know how to do his job without offending someone and has almost no desire to LEARN how to be a GOOD DOCTOR. His patients always seem to be mad at him bc he walks out at work, says inappropriate shit, WHATEVER.
GOOD ON HIM FOR NOT MASKING?? But if he can’t be a proper doctor and treat patients with respect and/or do his job properly maybe he shouldn’t be a doctor/surgeon. Autism or not. I feel like even autistic people understand that. I wouldn’t want any surgeon operating on me if they make fun of me for my identity or try to say i’m wrong for being who I am.
I need someone to agree with me. Someone tell me I’m not crazy. This show is such a bad representation of autism and savant syndrome as a whole. The show has its pros and cons, yes, but overall I HATE it with every ounce of murderous autism I have.
