The Twilight reboot series has gotten a status update that includes an apparent change in its format.
Previously, it had been reported that Twilight would be rebooted as a TV series, similar to what’s happening with Harry Potter at Max. Per Variety, a new update on the project has been revealed, with Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns sharing some news about the reboot at the Morgan Stanley media conference. Burns noted, “We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.” It hadn’t been revealed up to this point that the Twilight reboot would be animated, and it had been expected to be live-action.
Further details about the Twilight reboot series are unclear. What’s known is that it will be based on the original novel series by Stephenie Meyer, which consisted of four books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn) published between 2005 and 2008. This was followed by Meyer’s 2015 novel, Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, an alternate take on the story that gender-swapped the main characters. In 2020, Meyer published the book Midnight Sun, a story that re-told the events of the first Twilight novel, but from the point of view of Edward Cullen rather than Bella Swan.
The original four books in the franchise were adapted into five feature films, with Breaking Dawn split up into two movies. Starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the lead roles, the movies were released between 2008 and 2012. There would later be rumors and rumblings of a potential sequel happening before it was reported that Lionsgate will reboot Twilight from scratch.
Lionsgate Also Teased a John Wick TV Show
Peacock previously debuted The Continental, a prequel series set in the world of the John Wick films. Meanwhile, there are plans at Lionsgate to give the movie series another tie-in television show. Lionsgate’s Michael Burns did not get specific about details, such as which actors or characters might appear in the new John Wick series, but he teased its progress at the Morgan Stanley media conference.
“I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series,” Burns said.
No release information has yet been announced for both the Twilight and John Wick television shows, so as of now, it remains unclear when fans can expect to see them on the small screen.
