Why Eric Christian Olsen Is Done Playing Marty Deeks — and What He’s Doing Now md14

Marty Deeks may be a fan favorite, but Eric Christian Olsen has made it clear he’s not interested in returning to the NCIS universe. After 14 seasons on NCIS: Los Angeles, Olsen feels Deeks’ story reached a natural and satisfying ending.

Deeks began as a guest character before becoming a core member of the LA team, known for his undercover skills, humor, and his long-running romance with Kensi Blye. By the series finale, the couple was married and expecting a baby — a happy conclusion Olsen doesn’t want to undo. When asked about following LL Cool J back into the franchise, Olsen admitted he misses his former castmates, but said “not so much” when it comes to playing Deeks again.

Instead, Olsen has shifted behind the camera. He is now an executive producer on the Matlock reboot starring Kathy Bates, which has already earned a Season 2 renewal and a Golden Globe nomination. For Olsen, producing marks the next chapter — and Deeks appears firmly in the past.
