Chris O’Donnell Wanted an NCIS: LA Movie—Here’s Why It Never Happened md14

Chris O’Donnell may be moving on to a new procedural, but he hasn’t forgotten NCIS: Los Angeles. In a recent interview with TVLine, the actor revealed that he and his former castmates actually pitched the idea of an NCIS: LA TV movie following the show’s 14-season run. O’Donnell, who played G. Callen, said he was fully on board with revisiting the character.

“We suggested it, actually,” O’Donnell explained, noting that CBS didn’t feel the TV-movie format fit its programming strategy. The idea even resurfaced during the writers’ strike, with talk of quickly putting a script together, but it ultimately never came together.

Despite the disappointment, O’Donnell spoke fondly of the close-knit cast and was happy to hear updates about the characters’ offscreen futures, including Callen and Anna starting a family.

Looking ahead, O’Donnell is returning to the procedural genre as Captain Don Sharpe in 9-1-1: Nashville, set to premiere in September 2025.
