New details have emerged surrounding the tragic deaths of Virgin River actor Callum Kerr’s mother, Dawn Searle, and stepfather, Andrew Searle.
According to a BBC report published Tuesday, February 11, French authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths at their home in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, France. Dawn, 56, and Andrew, 62, were found deceased on Thursday, February 6, after a neighbor alerted authorities.
Investigators have stated that Dawn died as a result of head injuries, while Andrew’s death is being treated as a possible suicide. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, with additional medical and toxicology tests underway to determine whether the incident involved a domestic crime followed by suicide or the possible involvement of a third party.
No weapon was recovered at the scene, and authorities noted that the property showed signs of being lightly searched. Final conclusions have not yet been reached.
Kerr, 30, confirmed the devastating news in a statement shared on Instagram on Saturday, February 8. The post, issued on behalf of Kerr and other family members, requested privacy as they grieve and stated that no interviews or public comments would be made at this time. His Instagram account is currently being managed on his behalf.
Dawn and Andrew had moved to France from Scotland nearly a decade ago. The couple married in September 2023, with Kerr proudly walking his mother down the aisle — a moment he previously described as one of the greatest honors of his life.
A spokesperson for the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed they are supporting the family and coordinating with French authorities.
Kerr is best known to Netflix viewers for his role as Young Everett on Virgin River and previously appeared on the U.K. soap Hollyoaks as George Kiss from 2020 to 2021.
Authorities have stated that updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
