Vanessa Ray and Will Estes believe Tom Selleck is the reason fans continue to watch Blue Bloods
In the same way that legendary actor Kevin Costner served as a marketing tool for Paramount Network’s highly successful series “Yellowstone,” it could be said that one of the earliest selling points for “Blue Bloods” was CBS is the cast’s presence. Tom Selleck. Selleck plays Frank Reagan, the gruff, no-nonsense patriarch of the Reagan family, who is known for his multigenerational ties to New York City law enforcement.
Although much of the series focuses on field research of Frank’s children (almost all of whom served in some branch of the criminal justice system), it can be said that Frank’s leadership Frank to the Reagan family is the glue that holds the series together. There is perhaps no better example of this than the countless family dinners Frank hosts throughout the series, in which each family member comes together to air their grievances, recapping their week. them and solve their personal problems.
Indeed, there’s no doubt that Frank Reagan (and by extension, Tom Selleck himself) is an essential cornerstone of “Blue Bloods,” to the point where he essentially serves as the face of the series. As it happens, co-stars Vanessa Ray and Will Estes are well aware of Selleck’s impact on the show.

While speaking with WFSB 3 about Season 9 of “Blue Bloods,” actors Vanessa Ray and Will Estes (who play Eddie Janko-Reagan and Jamie Reagan, respectively) were asked what they think keeps audiences watching “ Blue Bloods” every week. Without hesitation, Estes replied: “Tom Selleck.” At this, Ray laughed and agreed almost immediately.
“I want to say other things too, but that’s probably the biggest thing,” Estes explains. “Tom is our leader inside and outside the program. He comes to work, he’s the most researched, he’s the most prepared. He knows the character, he knows the story, he can write, direct and produce the show but he insists that he just wants to act on it.”
Both Estes and Ray went on to explain that they learned a lot just by being with Tom, whose historic acting career has given him more experience than anyone else on the show. Far more interesting is the notion that Selleck himself was as powerful a force behind the scenes as on screen — and it’s clear that Tom Selleck’s enormous impact on “Blue Bloods” cannot be overstated.
