In real life, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was indeed married to King George III, with the pair sharing several children together throughout their relationship.
King George, who was given the nickname the ‘mad king’ due to his highly-publicised mental health problems, is played in the cast of the prequel spin-off series by Corey Mylchreest in his younger years, and by James Fleet when he’s portrayed as being older.
The show introduces viewers for the first time to the children of Queen Charlotte (played by India Amarteifio when she’s younger, and Golda Rosheuvel when she’s older) and King George, who had not previously made appearances in the first two seasons of Bridgerton.
