The NCIS universe has never been shy about goodbyes — from Gibbs’ emotional exit to the end of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2023. But while familiar faces like Sam Hanna have found their way back into the franchise, one fan-favorite absence still stings: Marty Deeks.
Played by Eric Christian Olsen, Deeks quickly evolved from a guest character into the heart of NCIS: LA. His humor, emotional openness, and loyalty brought balance to the show’s darker cases — and his romance with Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah**) became one of the franchise’s most beloved love stories.
Deeks also proved he fit seamlessly into the wider NCIS world. During the franchise crossover, his unexpected chemistry with Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama**) was a highlight, offering humor, warmth, and a refreshing take on male friendship that fans immediately wanted more of.
Unfortunately, that return may never happen. Olsen has confirmed he has no plans to reprise the role, instead focusing on his work as an executive producer on Matlock. It’s a practical choice — but one that leaves a noticeable gap in the NCIS lineup.
