Where Is The Office Cast Now? Here’s What the Actors Have Been Up to 20 Years After Introducing the World to Dunder Mifflin

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica!

Across its nine seasons, The Office cultivated superfans who became enthralled in the everyday lives of the Dunder Mifflin branch employees.

Premiering on NBC on March 24, 2005, Greg Daniels’ 9-to-5 mockumentary comedy series — based on Ricky Gervais’ British original — captured the hijinks and humdrum of working in the bullpen of a Scranton, Pa., paper company, where regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) desperately tries to live up to his self-appointed title as “World’s Best Boss.”

Though its rocky debut season nearly sent it to the shredder, The Office found its footing on season 2 — eventually earning five Emmys and nine Golden Globe nominations. The Peabody Award-winning show also catapulted the careers of Carell, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms and more.

After leaving Netflix in 2020, all 201 episodes (and extended “superfan episodes”) launched exclusively on Peacock. The streaming service is furthering the legacy of the workplace comedy with The Paper, an upcoming spinoff set at a faltering Midwestern newspaper. The series will reportedly star Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Melvin Gregg, Alex Edelman and more, with former Office cast member Oscar Nuñez gearing up to reprise his role.

So, as we celebrate 20 years of The Office and look forward to its next evolution, let’s check in with the OG cast since they last clocked out of Dunder Mifflin.

Steve Carell as Michael Scott

Carell has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors since appearing on The Office‘s first seven seasons (plus the series finale) as Dunder Mifflin’s former head, Michael. Though the role helped establish his career — and earned him nine Emmy nominations as a producer and actor — Carell has confirmed he won’t return for the Office spinoff.

“I will be watching, but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,” Carell told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “But I’m excited about it; it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea.”

While he became known for his comedic chops, Carell took a more dramatic turn in 2014’s Foxcatcher (for which he received his first Academy Award nomination) and again in the 2018 films Beautiful Boy and Welcome to Marwen. He also starred on the first two seasons of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show (for which he earned an acting Emmy nomination in 2020), Netflix’s Space Force and FX’s The Patient. He also voices the villainous Gru in the Despicable Me film franchise and Minions spinoffs.

Carell has been married to actress Nancy Walls — who also appeared on The Office as real estate agent Carol Stills — since 1995. They share two kids: daughter Annie and son John.

John Krasinski as Jim Halpert

Krasinski — in the role of underworked sales rep Jim — spent nine seasons pulling pranks on Dunder Mifflin employees. The actor told PEOPLE in 2024 that a return for the spinoff isn’t off the table.

“They haven’t asked, but the truth is, I’d do anything Greg Daniels asked me to do,” he said.

After leaving The Office, Krasinski shed his dorky, boy-next-door image and became a bona fide sex symbol: He has starred as CIA analyst Jack Ryan on the Prime Video revival of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan since 2018 and was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024.

Like Carell, Krasinski also ventured into more dramatic film roles, including 13 Hours (2016), Detroit (2017) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), while also sharing his familiar voice in the animated movies Monsters University (2013), Animal Crackers (2017) and DC League of Super-Pets (2022).

In addition to his on-camera roles, Krasinski has achieved acclaim as a director and producer. He directed films like A Quiet Place (2018), A Quiet Place Part II (2020) and IF (2024) and received four Emmy nominations for producing the series Lip Sync Battle and Curses!

In 2010, he and actress Emily Blunt — with whom he costars in A Quiet Place franchise — tied the knot. The couple has since welcomed two daughters, Hazel and Violet.
