As NCIS: Los Angeles launches Season 14, Daniela Ruah is giving fans a taste of what to expect — from emotional family moments to a major Hetty mystery.
The premiere dives into Kensi and Deeks adjusting to life as foster parents to Rosa, the teenager Kensi rescued in Mexico. Their first-day-of-school jitters end up stressing Rosa out even more, highlighting how the couple is learning parenthood in real time.
“Kensi and Deeks didn’t get to raise her from childhood,” Ruah explained. “They’re meeting her as a young adult with her own history, trauma, and independence — and they’re doing their best to catch up.”
Meanwhile, a troubling discovery abroad shakes the team: a body found in Syria matches Hetty’s description. Callen and Kilbride must confront the possibility that the remains could be hers. Ruah said the cast knows little about what’s coming: “Scott keeps Hetty’s storyline very close. We investigate a body — but beyond that, it’s a mystery.”
Ruah also emphasized that while action drives the series, the heart of the show remains its characters: “Viewers stay for the relationships and the emotional journeys.”
Beyond the premiere, Ruah reflected on directing episodes this season, the impact Rosa has on Kensi, and the evolving team with new cast members. And yes — she’s open to sticking around long enough for a potential Season 20.
Season 14 promises big missions, bigger questions, and plenty of family-driven drama — especially for Kensi, whose new role as a mom is already reshaping her world.
