Spencer Dutton made it out of 1923 alive and intact, despite enduring some of the worst travails yet unleashed upon a member of the Yellowstone universe’s ever-embattled central clan.
1944 is set to be the next dramatic installment in the Dutton Family saga, and Spencer Dutton actor Brandon Sklenar is ready for duty should he be called back to the Sheridanverse.
“It would be great,” Sklenar said when asked if his fan-favorite character would be a part of the 1944 cast (via Today). Returning as Spencer would require the actor to be aged up by 20 years, but Sklenar indicated he is game for such a transformation.
“It would be pretty cool to see me with extra crows feet and frosted tips,” he quipped. “Age me up a little bit.”
1923 ended with Spencer losing his wife Alexandra, who did manage to bravely stave off gangrenous death just long enough to give birth to a baby revealed to be John Dutton II, the father of Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone character John Dutton III.
1944 would presumably detail the adventures of John Dutton II during the era of World War 2. Spencer would still be alive in the time-frame indicated by the show’s title, as confirmed by 1923 in a flash-forward that showed the character passing away as an old man in the year 1969.
Sklenar has talked before about his desire to return as an older Spencer Dutton, a character he admits he had a hard time shaking after 1923 ended.
“It has affected who I am, it has changed who I am,” the actor revealed of his time playing the heroic Spencer (via Variety). “So I would love to continue to do it in any capacity if I could.”
The whole of Yellowstone creator Sheridan’s small-screen domain is currently undergoing a major shake-up, as the streaming mogul recently parted ways with Paramount+, and signed a massive new deal with NBCUniversal.
With Yellowstone and its spinoffs remaining the property of Paramount,1944 would presumably be made before the expiration of Sheridan’s current deal in 2028.
While he waits to learn the fate of Spencer Dutton, Sklenar has already lined up another project with Sheridan. The thriller F.I.R.E. is set to star the 1923 actor in a film scripted and executive produced by the Yellowstonecreator.
December 19 will see Sklenar hitting the big screen in The Housemaid, a psychological thriller from Paul Feig also starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. Like 1923, the film deals with a traumatic family situation, but minus the wolves, land-wars and fatal frostbite.
