After 14 seasons as Special Agent G. Callen, Chris O’Donnell is finally opening up about the emotional goodbye to NCIS: Los Angeles — and the movie that nearly gave fans one last mission.
Speaking with TV Line, O’Donnell admitted that wrapping the series in 2023 was harder than he expected. The cast had spent over a decade together, and as the Hollywood strikes hit, they began discussing a bold idea: a feature-length NCIS: LA movie.
According to O’Donnell, the team believed they could pull it off in just six weeks. “There was definitely interest on our side,” he said. “But it just wasn’t the kind of thing CBS tends to go for.” Despite the enthusiasm, the project stalled before it could take shape.
For longtime viewers hoping for closure, the news is bittersweet. A reunion film could have offered one final look at Callen, Sam, Kensi, Deeks, and the rest of the beloved team.
“It was tough to leave,” O’Donnell reflected. “We genuinely enjoyed working with each other.”
The show may be over, but its legacy — and the movie that almost was — still echoes among fans who followed the LA office from day one.
