Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge has finally answered the question fans keep asking about Netflix’s hit holiday rom-com My Secret Santa: Was that really her singing on stage?
The festive film ends with Taylor Jacobson—Breckenridge’s character—jumping onstage with a guitar and tearing into Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run.” The scene instantly became a fan-favorite, with many praising her rock-star vocals.
But Breckenridge has now confirmed the truth: “It’s not my voice.”
Speaking to Us Weekly, the actress admitted she almost performed the song herself, but the idea scared her “more than playing Santa Claus.” She did, however, play the guitar for real, thanks to picking it up again after playing in her younger years.
Breckenridge joked the song was “shockingly hard” because of the hand stretch required — made worse by shooting in the freezing temperatures of Kamloops, British Columbia:
“I could barely move my fingers… I think I almost got frostbite.”
The actress also confessed she was a “nervous wreck” leading up to the scene, calling the musical finale “very important” to her performance and to the movie as a whole.
So while the guitar work is all Breckenridge, the powerhouse vocals belong to a professional vocal double — paired with some impressive lip-syncing.
