‘Worth the wait’: Everything the Yellowstone cast have spilled about the epic Season 5 finale

There’s no denying the facts, the end of Yellowstone is near!

As we countdown to the final episodes ever, fans are dying to know how the hit-drama series will end. What will be the fate of the Dutton family?

It seems like the cast have their own juicy theories, which you can read right here.

Like a cowboy on a sunny morning, we’ve rounded up everything the Yellowstone cast have said about the epic finale and potential spin-offs so far.

So you can dive well into the drama before the final installment premieres this November, the same day as the US, only on Stan.

Ian Bohen teases the ‘best finale in history’

Fans would know Ian Bohen as Dutton Ranch hand Ryan in the series. In April 2024, he gave us the biggest tease yet…

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor said that he wasn’t aware of any show that had “finished this strongly ever” like Yellowstone will.

“We’re expecting to have the best series finale in history,” said Ian.

“Overconfident maybe, but I think that’s what it’s going to be. We thank everyone for their patience… It’ll be worth the wait, I promise.”

He continued: “The fans are going to get the [best] conclusion that could possibly be written. Everything will land in a way that is perfectly set. A lot of shows just kind of finish… and they don’t satisfy you. This will be completed in a way that it will make sense.”

That’s the tease we’ve all been waiting for!

Kevin Costner has ‘hope’ his story will continue

The finale might be looming, but like us, Kevin Costner isn’t ready to say goodbye to the Duttons just yet.

In April 2024, the 69-year-old actor said he has “hope” the Dutton family story will continue and if so, he’d love to be apart of it.

“I thought I was going to make seven [seasons],” he told Entertainment Tonight. “But right now we’re at five.”

With the multiple spin-off sequels and prequels that have been created, Kevin noted there was “a lot of different shows going on”.

As for speculation Yellowstone will go beyond Season 5, he said: “Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

The star also teased how he thinks John Dutton’s story will wrap up.

“Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how it might be,” he told the outlet.

“We just have to see.”

Kelly Reilly responds to spin-off rumours

With the hit series coming to an end, a number of planned spin-offs are reportedly in the works (on top of 1883 and 1923 that already exist).

Rumour has it, one of those spin-offs would centre around the Dutton kids.

Yellowstone Season 2 Beth Dutton Kelly Reilly

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, Kelly Reilly called “nonsense” on those rumours but teased there were discussions happening.

“I just care about finishing [the main show] with as much care and as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it,” she revealed.

“That’s what I care about most.”

Speaking about what goes beyond that, she said: “There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read.”

“It’s just nonsense. But we’re gonna… let’s wait and see. I don’t have an answer right now. But we’ll see.”

As spin-off show about Beth Dutton? We can only hope!

Luke Grimes hints at Kayce’s future

Soon after the show’s mid-season finale, Luke Grimes – who plays Kayce Dutton in the drama series – stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to spill what could happen during the second half of Season 5.

However, he soon confirmed that while he’d love to spill a few details, creator Taylor Sheridan has refused to tell him how it ends for one big reason.

“I think some of the cast knows the end. Some have been told. Some haven’t,” he revealed.

“I don’t think Taylor, who writes our show, wants me to know either,” he continued.

“It might affect the way you do something or play something. And it’s kind of fun to experience it this way anyway. It’s sort of like life.”

Season 5 focuses on Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton, as he is elected governor of US state Montana.

But as usual, there’s drama brewing among his son Kayce and the rest of his children – and Luke hinted that the family’s future might not be set in stone.

“I think that’s what we’re all kind of waiting to see,” he added during his appearance on the chat show.

“Can he step up and man up and do the things necessary to help the family keep the place or not?”

Josh Lucas spills a major finale detail

Josh Lucas is known for his recurring role as young John Dutton. Appearing in only flashbacks, his character sets up the backstory to the Dutton family legacy.

In March 2024, Josh told Deadline that “as far as he knows” he’ll be reprising his role as young John Dutton in the series finale!

“I did text Taylor [Sheridan] a couple of months back and said, ‘Hey man, I’ve loved working on the show so much’. He’s like, ‘Well, we’ll be back and we’re gonna finish’,” he told the publication.

The star also spilled some huge news about the show’s highly-anticipated finale.

“I think we’re going to to do 10 or more episodes and wrap up the story,” he revealed.

With eight episodes in Season 5 Part 1, an extra 10 episodes to finish the chapter would certainly be a treat for fans.

Lainey Wilson teases a surprise return

Country music star Lainey Wilson said she’s a phone call away from reprising her role in the hit series – come the finale.

The award-winning artist stepped out on the red carpet for 2024 Grammy Awards in February, and revealed an update fans would be excited to hear.

“I’m ready for it, I’ll tell you that,” Lainey told ET about her potential return to the ranch.

“I’m waiting to see what’s happening. I told [creator] Taylor Sheridan, ‘You give me the call and I’ll be there’.”

Lainey made her acting debut in Season 5 of the drama as local musician Abby, who was Ryan’s (Ian Bohen) love interest.

The first instalment of Season 5 saw John Dutton (Kevin Costner) take office as the Governor of Montana, with the Dutton family fighting a war from all sides.

Like Lainey, we can’t wait to see what happens – and her words have undoubtedly made people even more excited to see it.
