What has Lauren Lane been up to since her iconic role as C.C. Babcock on the beloved ’90s sitcom The Nanny?
From 1993 to 1999, Lane brought C.C. Babcock to life as Maxwell Sheffield’s sharp-tongued business partner. Known for her constant bickering with Butler Niles and her competitive dynamic with Fran Drescher’s Nanny Fine, Babcock became a fan favorite for her wit and sass. But after the series wrapped, Lane largely stepped away from television.

Lauren Lane stepped back from TV after The Nanny
Following the show’s finale, Lane “retired” from television, according to Entertainment Weekly, although she did make a few screen appearances, including Partners (1999), the short film The Cutting Room (2001), and Dress Code (2019 short). She also reunited with the cast in 2004 for The Nanny Reunion: A Nosh to Remember, a one-hour Lifetime special.
Since then, Lane has focused primarily on live theater and education.
A thriving theater career and teaching at Texas State University
Since 2000, Lane has been a regular performer at the Zachary Scott Theater Center (ZACH Theater) in Austin, Texas — one of the oldest theater companies in the country. Her stage credits include acclaimed productions such as The Vagina Monologues, Dinner with Friends, The Clean House, House of Several Stories, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Harvey, among others.
In addition to performing, Lane is a full-time lecturer at Texas State University in San Marcos, where she teaches in the Department of Theater and Dance. She briefly taught at Carnegie Mellon University in 2013, an institution famous for producing Hollywood talent like Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Holly Hunter, Rob Marshall, and Josh Groban.
Lane’s extensive training includes a BFA from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master’s degree from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. While fans may miss her C.C. Babcock antics, Lane continues to shine on stage and inspires the next generation of actors through her teaching and theater work.
