A new show set in the Big Bang Theory universe is introducing fans to a fresh, science fiction-driven narrative that dives into alternate realities. According to the show’s press release, viewers can expect to see familiar characters in alternate-universe versions, but as the title suggests, things don’t exactly go as planned.
Though Sheldon and Leonard—played by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki in the original series—are not listed as part of the regular cast, the series promises to deliver an exciting new angle on the beloved world of The Big Bang Theory.
The series is being executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, who have worked together to create a show that pushes creative boundaries.
Lorre, reflecting on the series’ bold direction, commented, “I wanted to do something radically different, something that would challenge me and take me out of my comfort zone—something the characters from The Big Bang Theory would have both loved and hated in equal measure.”
Prady, who has been collaborating with Lorre and Penn on the show’s development, added, “Working on this project with Chuck and Zak has been incredibly rewarding, and I think that joy will shine through on screen. It’s been amazing to merge the science fiction storytelling that the Big Bang characters adore with the comedy that made the show a hit.”
The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019, was a cultural phenomenon, with Young Sheldon serving as its successful spinoff for seven seasons. The second season of another Big Bang spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, is set to premiere this fall.
This new project marks the latest chapter in the expanding Big Bang Theory universe. Warner Bros. and HBO Max, which are both part of CNN’s parent company, are behind the production.
