Farewell to Nick Torres: NCIS’s Wilmer Valderrama Dies md20

Speaking to TVLine, Valderrama talked about a “massive” scene that “is going to set the fans on fire.” The actor went on to discuss the relationship between Nick and Jessica. “It’s a little complicated. It’s a little messy, [but] there is something happening underneath,” he said. “We’re having a lot of fun with really exploring the humanity of these characters, and the working place drama is always delicious to watch, so we’ll see how far we go.”

Valderrama also explained that every detail in Season 23 is “intentionally stitched together for an arc.” That means viewers should “definitely read into everything… even the smallest little scenes.” The actor promised that a few “familiar faces” will be returning to the show. [They are] “instrumental for what we’re planning for this season,” he explained. “They’re going to serve as something bigger.”

Valderrama joined NCIS in the role of Nicholas Torres in Season 14, with Law joining the cast as Jessica Knight in Season 18 as a guest star before being added to the series’ main cast in Season 19. In the years since, both characters have cemented their place as favorites among fans, not to mention two of the most important recent additions to the NCIS roster.

Season 22 featured some serious romantic tension between the two, although whether they will actually act on those shared feelings remains to be seen. NCIS executive producer and showrunner Stephen D. Binder recently promised fans that the Season 23 premiere would pick up right where the Season 22 finale left off, touting the upcoming episode as “super continuous.”

What Else Can Fans Expect from NCIS Season 23?

As Binder explained, the Season 23 premiere will feature “a lot of heat, a lot of action, and we’re hoping not to let up. Even if it kills us.” Binder also discussed the ways in which the multiple Season 22 storylines might come together in Season 23, recalling the creative team’s approach to these various threads.

“The more we thought about it, we thought, ‘Sure, there’s a surprise there, right?’ Sometimes when you get further along, something opens up as a natural organic development,” he said. “But in terms of us forcing it or bringing it there, it really felt like these should be two separate parts of this guy’s life.”

NCIS Season 23 will cross over with one of the franchise’s other hit series – NCIS: Origins. Set to take place on November 11, the crossover will begin with a brand-new episode of NCIS: Origins in which a young Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and his NIS team investigate a harrowing murder mystery that goes unsolved. Immediately after that episode, NCIS series will find the modern-day team led by Alden Parker (Gary Cole) digging back into the case.

NCIS is streaming on Paramount+. Season 23 premieres on CBS on Oct. 14.
