NCIS’ Sean Murray Breaks Silence on Exit Rumors: “Things Can Take Big, Unexpected Turns” md14

Could “NCIS” fans be bracing for another major departure?

Sean Murray, who has played special agent and tech expert Timothy McGee since Season 1, is now the longest-running actor in the franchise. Over more than 20 years, viewers have watched him evolve from the awkward “probie” into one of the team’s most trusted veterans. But with so many cast exits in recent seasons, speculation has swirled that Murray could be the next to leave.

In a recent conversation with TVLine, Murray acknowledged that he’s heard the whispers.

“There’s always an element of the gossip thing that comes up,” he said with a grin.
“Things can take big, unexpected turns with characters. I mean, things can happen. No one is ever quite safe on this show.”

He reminded fans that NCIS might have its light moments, but the danger is always real — both for characters and the actors playing them.

“Don’t forget: We were the show where one of our lead characters took a bullet and died at the end of Season 2,” he noted, referencing the shocking death of Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander), a moment that defined the series’ willingness to take bold risks.

And Murray teased that Season 23 could hold similar surprises.

“We’ve had some really surprising things happen,” he said.
“I can tell you there’s stuff coming up this year that longtime fans are really going to enjoy — because it’s different for us and unexpected.”

So while McGee isn’t going anywhere yet, Murray’s comments make one thing clear: in the world of NCIS, no character is ever completely safe.
