She has a request for show creator Taylor Sheridan.
As Yellowstone fans know, the beloved western is ending at the end of its fifth season. Actor Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton on the show, has a few thoughts on her character’s storyline before the last episode airs. It doesn’t involve working in her father’s government office or her relationship with Rip. It involves getting Dutton to ditch a bad habit.
Turns out that there is one thing that Reilly may not miss about her time on the Dutton ranch—one thing that she hates “so much” about her character. That thing? All of Beth’s cigarette smoking.
“I don’t smoke, so all those cigarettes are the herbal cigarettes,” Reilly told ET in an interview back in January 2022. “I hate them so much and he [Taylor Sheridan] has it in the script when she’s smoking and when she takes a drag, it’s all written.”
For her part, Reilly hopes the Dutton daughter will find a new way to channel her addiction before the show ends or a spin-off begins. “I’m trying to pitch him an idea that she gets addicted to Nicorette gum,” Reilly told ET. While Reilly hoped that Beth would swap cigarettes for nicotine gum by the end of season five, the show’s co-creator and head writer, Taylor Sheridan, doesn’t seem to have written that bit of character development into the script yet.
However, Reilly is in talks to continue playing Beth on 2024, the latest spin-off in the ever-expanding Yellowstone family, so perhaps there’s still time for Dutton to swap bad habits.
