Speaking with TVLine, Weiss confirmed that FBI season 8 will begin not long after Isobel’s collapse, rejoining the team just three days later. However, he remains unspecific about when in the episode Isobel’s fate will be revealed. He said it’s important for audiences to feel the extent of the damage done during the attack, not revealing when she’ll be addressed:
That’s a great question, and we answer it in dialogue in the premiere — three days. We wanted it to feel like, in TV parlance, a direct pick-up.
You might not know for a long time. You’ll have to watch!… I might not be a total fiend, but I do employ some fiendish writers… We wanted you to feel very real fallout from her horrible, life-threatening injuries, and also the kind of existential threat that was posed to the New York Field Office. We did, after all, survive kind of a coup that took place.
What Mike Weiss’ Statement Means For Isobel In FBI Season 8
Weiss also revealed that FBI season 8 will be returning with a big case following the betrayals and lack of trust that happened at the end of season 7. This means the whole team is going to be on edge heading into the next batch of episodes, with Isobel’s collapse being just one stressor everyone will be dealing with.
As of writing, there’s no indication yet whether Isobel is going to survive, or if she’s going to succumb to her injuries. She wasn’t breathing the last time she was seen, meaning she needed immediate medical attention if she was to pull through. At the same time, the core agents have been in dire situations before; she could pull through.
Our Take On Isobel’s Fate In FBI Season 8
It makes sense for Isobel’s fate to be withheld somewhat in FBI season 8, especially given how dire the situation was at the end of season 7. By keeping her fate somewhat under wraps and potentially not knowing for some time, it seems Weiss is determined to keep her next appearance mostly under wraps until the series returns.
