With Virgin River returning for its sixth season in just a few days — more than a year after Season 5 wrapped — Swooon has dropped fresh details about what fans can expect in the romance department. And it sounds like this may be the most unforgettable chapter yet.
Alexandra Breckenridge, who stars as nurse practitioner and midwife Melinda “Mel” Monroe, has hinted that Season 6 will lean far more into intimacy than previous seasons. Her comments echo what co-star Benjamin Hollingsworth shared earlier this year.
Speaking with Swooon about the upcoming season, Breckenridge revealed:
“In Season 5, we really pulled back on some of that. I don’t know what you want to call it… intimacy? In Season 6, we felt like the fans were sort of missing that aspect of the show, so we wanted to bring a little bit more of that in for the fans.”
A New Love Story Blossoms
Season 6 will also introduce a brand-new romance — the early love story between young Everett (Callum Kerr) and Sarah (Jessica Rothe). The show will transport viewers back to the 1970s to explore how their relationship first began. Sharing insight into their story, Rothe said:
“We all have that person who was our first love, the one we never stopped thinking about, who we’re drawn back to again and again. I think everyone can relate to that feeling of finding your person, and sometimes fate is generous with that. I love that Sarah’s practical but still an optimist. She knew she and Everett would find each other again — she has faith in the world like that.”
Virgin River Turns Up the Heat
Not only will Season 6 bring more intimacy, but viewers should also expect a noticeably “spicier” tone. According to Hollingsworth, the show is returning to its roots as a “relationship-driven” drama. Earlier this year, the actor — who plays Dan Brady — teased:
“I think I can say that we’ve definitely turned up the heat in Season 6. I think all characters fall under this umbrella. After watching Season 6, you might need a cold shower. I can say that without giving too much away.”
