However, it wasn’t that long ago that Christine was married to Paul (Doug Davidson), who fans haven’t seen in years. This has raised questions about what happened to Paul on the hit CBS soap.

Where is Paul on The Young and the Restless?

The character of Paul debuted in 1978 with Davidson in the role. Paul was a key character for decades in various roles, like working for the Genoa City Police Department and, of course, being a leading man in town.

All of that suddenly changed in 2018 when Davidson’s contract was not renewed, and he was bumped to recurring status. Paul was seen on screen less and less, with his final appearance in 2020.

In 2023, Christine, then married to Paul, revealed that he was missing the Genoa City bicentennial celebration because he was visiting his daughter, Heather (Vail Bloom), in Portugal. It was also revealed that Paul had retired from the GCPD and recommended that Chance (Conner Floyd) fill his shoes as the police chief.

Christine joined Paul in Portugal for a brief time to work on their marriage. They ultimately decided to get a divorce.

When Paul’s daughter Heather and granddaughter Lucy (Lily Brooks O’ Briant) returned to Genoa City, he still remained off-screen in Portugal. The character didn’t even return to Heather’s funeral in 2024 after she was murdered. Christine revealed that Paul had a heart attack off-screen, preventing him from traveling.

That was the last time Paul was mentioned on the CBS soap.

Doug Davidson Speaks Out On The Young and the Restless Exit

The actor who played Paul for over 40 years has addressed no longer being on the show more than once. In 2018, after his contract was not renewed, Davidson spoke to Soaps.com about it.

“My contract was not renewed in January, I went on recurring, but just until they had new people in place. I have only 2 shows that haven’t aired and no dates. So, as far as I know, I am gone,” he expressed.

In 2021, he took to social media to reveal he had not heard from the powers that be at the show.

“It’s the state of television. I find it remarkable that after 42.5 years I haven’t heard from the network at all. 🤷‍♂️ No thank you for your service, a phone call. Many gifts from the first 25 years…not a peep from this group. I don’t think it’s personal. New era. Still grateful,” Davidson wrote.

Davidson confirmed in 2023 that he had cleaned out his dressing room at The Young and the Restless after 40 years of being on the CBS soap. There has not been any official reason given from The Young and the Restlessregarding Paul and Davison’s exit.
