Alexandra Breckenridge, who has charmed viewers for years as Mel Monroe in Netflix’s Virgin River, just gave fans a tantalizing glimpse of what’s ahead in Season 7 — and it looks like big changes are coming for her character.

In a lighthearted Instagram Story, the actress appeared in bright blue scrubs and a navy sweatshirt, hinting that Mel may be stepping back into a more hands-on medical role.
“Hey there, happy Monday,” Breckenridge said with a grin. “You notice something different about me today? Something… scrub-like? I wonder why Alex could be wearing scrubs? Hmmm. You’re just going to have to wait until season seven to find out, aren’t you?”
Playfully adding, “She’s getting her nurse on,” Breckenridge quickly laughed it off, saying, “That was so cheesy. I’m sorry — it’s early, and I didn’t get much sleep!”
While the reason behind Mel’s new look remains a mystery, fans are already speculating that she could be assisting with a delivery or emergency medical situation — a refreshing return to her roots as a nurse practitioner after spending much of Season 6 focused on personal matters.
What’s Next for Mel and Jack in Season 7
Season 6 ended on a high note with Mel and Jack’s long-awaited wedding, and according to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, Season 7 will dive into their newlywed life on the farm.
“We’re exploring the honeymoon phase for them as they build their lives together — which can come with its own obstacles,” Smith told Tudum. But fans can rest easy: “I can’t imagine a scenario where Mel and Jack break up,” he confirmed. “Instead, we’re looking at what new challenges they’ll face through a romantic lens.”

The upcoming season also brings fresh energy to the cozy town with two new characters:
