Boston Blue returned this week with a new episode: Teammates. The series’ second episode focuses on partnerships, friendships, and relationships.
It begins with one of the most important relationships in the show, Danny and Sean Regran. We see them at Fenway Park enjoying some the game for some father/son bonding time. Their fun day quickly takes a turn when a body is found outside of the baseball game. The two hear the shots and go running towards the danger. Danny tells Sean to call it in, and just like that we have our week’s case.

Complicated Ponzi Scheme
The guy who was murdered? His name is Winston and heblew the whistle on a Ponzi scheme. It’s complicated. He’s turned states witness. It should be easy to figure out who murdered him, right? Well, not so fast. The guy who ran the Ponzi scheme, Malakov, was also murdered.
This definitely complicates things for Danny and Lena. Since Danny is technically still on loan, he’s able to work the case with her. He seems to be actually enjoying his time in Boston and working with Lena.
Winston’s murderer was successful because cops left him alone. They left their assigned posts and broke protocol. One left early to take care of her child (more on that later) and another cop was late to his post. It turns out that the cop who was late was paid off by Harold Baca. But Baca wasn’t the only one guilty here.
To make things more complicated, his sister, Naomi, (also Winston’s wife), was involved. She didn’t want to give everything up. She was mad that her husband had gone states evidence and she was going to cause her to lose her fabulous lifestyle. Wow. What a piece of work!
We hope she spends a very long time behind bars.
Lena and Danny worked really well in this case with help from Sarah. It was good police work, and it definitely reminded us of Blue Bloods. The way that Danny and Lena are able to work with each other, reminds us of the way he works with Maria. Baez and Reagan will always be supreme, but we’re definitely excited to see how these two work together.

Sarah and Syvlia’s Friendship
The cop we mentioned earlier – the one that left her post early – was Sarah’s old partner and friend, Sylvia. Sylvia’s child needed her and as a parent she left. SHe made a mistake leaving her post. She knows that.
Sarah understands that and knows if she asks for Sylvia’s badge, then she won’t be able to take care of her child. We’re glad the show focused on this issue. In every profession, parents have to juggle work and their families, and sometimes it feels impossible. Finding solutions also that allow parents to be there for their child is also very difficult.
Boston Blue wasn’t afraid to take the issue head on.
Sylvia did make a mistake and she realizes that. If she hadn’t left her post early, then Winston may not have been killed. She knows that her actions have consequences and goes to Sarah.
Sarah wants to help, but how does she? She doesn’t pull strings – that’s not what she does. How can she help her friend and still be the leader that she’s supposed to be and wants to be.
Sarah finds a way and figures out a way to help by getting her a job at the D.A.’s office (with Mae’s help, obviously). We’re glad that Sarah was able to figure out a solution and talk to her friend in order to make sure she took it. It gave us a little insight on to who Sarah is.
Danny compared Sarah to Frank. We don’t know if we’d go as far to say Sarah is as caring and amazing as Frank Reagan, but we’re glad to know that the same situations and lessons that occurred on Blue Bloods will probably happen here as well.

Sean and Jonah’s Partnership
Sean and Jonah’s first day together definitely didn’t go as planned… and their families didn’t help! Danny and Lena made their first day very complicated. Danny and Lena were delivering the same message to them separately. They got inside Sean and Jonah’s head, telling that only one of them could be the hero.
Why in the world would they tell them that? Partners are that: partners.
They’re equals.
Luckily, Sean and Jonah figured that out pretty quickly and were able to apprehend their suspect near the end of “Teammates”. We loved that they decided they weren’t Batman and Robin or Watson and Sherlock. They’re “Starsky and Hutch.
After this first episode, we are very excited to see more of Jonah and Sean’s partnership. It’s obvious these two care very much about each other and the job, and Marcus Scribner and Mika Amonsen work really well together. The casting department did a great job here.
Other Thoughts:
- It looks like Danny’s staying in Boston. It was obvious it was going to happen. Because if it didn’t…. well, we wouldn’t have a show.
- We love that Danny decided to stay so that there would be another Reagan in Boston. And there would be someone to have Sean’s back. We can’t wait to see more of this father/son dynamic.
- Lena and Danny work really well together. Lena may be our favorite Silver…. it’s a toss up between her or Jonah.
- While we like Lena, our favorite partner of Danny’s will always be Maria Baez. Maria and Danny BETTER be able to figure out their relationship. We didn’t wait years for them to become a couple for them to just break up.
- “Starting to feel like a cop?” “Feeling like a Reagan.”
