Veteran soap star Suzanne Rogers, who has portrayed Maggie Horton on Days of Our Lives since 1973, has revealed that she was diagnosed earlier this year with Stage II colorectal cancer.
Despite being a longtime fixture on the daytime drama, Rogers said the diagnosis still came as a shock. After recognizing that something “wasn’t quite right” and undergoing scans and a biopsy, she was told she must begin treatment immediately.
Rogers underwent a six-week regimen of daily radiation and chemotherapy, timed during the show’s summer hiatus to allow for privacy and recovery.
She emphasized how deeply grateful she is for the support of her on-screen family. Co-star Linsey Godfrey (who plays her daughter Sarah on the show) stayed by her side through treatments, and other cast and crew members reached out frequently with messages of encouragement. “We really feel like a family,” Rogers said.
Looking ahead, Rogers is set to return to work and affirmed that she has no intention of stepping away from her role despite the health scare. Her focus is now on recovery, gratitude, and continuing her extraordinary legacy on the show.
