Kevin Costner’s four-part Western feature may not pay off as rumors suggest actor is dangerously close to begging Taylor Sheridan to take him back.
As Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner lock horns over the latter’s Yellowstone departure, the rest of the world patiently awaits the dust to settle and both parties to reach an agreeable verdict. With every volatile barb exchanged and false rumors coloring the news headlines, the unfolding drama only makes the Paramount series more susceptible to adverse opinions affecting its viewership.
Launched in 2018, the Taylor Sheridan drama not only helped establish Paramount+ as a streamer but also reinstated Kevin Costner at the height of his fame (again). However, circumstances pushed the Oscar-winner to place his own priorities first, thus leaving Yellowstone to pursue his long-awaited passion project, Horizon: An American Saga.
Now, even as his Western falls apart, the latest rumors circulating through the grapevine suggest that the actor is considering coming back to Paramount and sacrificing his ego to get a shot at making things right with Taylor Sheridan.
Kevin Costner Burns the Candle at Both Ends
The Kevin Costner and Yellowstone drama is a two-pronged problem with no easy solution, whichever way one looks at it. Primarily, Costner is right in wanting to leave the series in pursuit of his passion project, especially considering his initial promise to the director to prioritize Yellowstone and Sheridan’s inability to stick to a set schedule for filming which in turn kept delaying Costner’s plans for Horizon.
On the other hand, Costner leaving his co-stars high and dry in the middle of Season 5 shows a grave lack of judgment that not only jeopardized the show’s ratings but also attracted negative press for dragging out the drama in public. Rumors claim Costner’s co-stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes froze the actor out for risking the show’s future and by proxy, endangering their role in the show.
But considering how Costner’s Horizon plans fell apart within a week of its Cannes premiere, insider sources claim the actor is mulling over his decision to boycott Yellowstone by returning to the show and making amends with Taylor Sheridan.
Is Kevin Costner Willing to Come Back to Yellowstone?
After spending 14 months in limbo over the production of one Yellowstone Season, Kevin Costner decided it was time to pack his bags and let go of the false promises. But, circumstances have landed Costner in murky waters, making it difficult for him to move forward without looking back to the demons of his past, especially his damaged relationship with Taylor Sheridan.
Kevin burned his bridges at Yellowstone. But now that his world is crumbling around him, I hear he’s considering begging Taylor to take him back! Kevin didn’t make any friends among his costars. He left the entire future of the show in question by delaying the production — and then left the show altogether to work on Horizon. They didn’t know whether they’d even have jobs during all of that. It’s hard to imagine them welcoming him back with open arms.
Kevin felt he was on a winning streak that couldn’t be broken, and he got into a war of egos with Taylor. Things have obviously changed radically. Kevin’s looking at a return to Yellowstone to save his hide. It’s got to be a bitter pill for him to swallow.
While the rumors may hold some truth to them, not all of it can be taken at face value. For one, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One received a 7-minute standing ovation at Cannes. Considering how Costner has waited years to manifest this project onto the screen, it is only sensible that he see it through, whether the Western film resonates with the critics or not.
