For the Top 10 overall Paramount charts, which include the views from Amazon Channels, Fire Country is currently in second place, just behind Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King. Meanwhile, Sheriff Country is just behind it in third place.
Created by Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater, Fire Country premiered on CBS in 2022 and quickly established itself as the then-latest hit drama series. Fire Country follows a group of prisoners who join the California Conservation Camp Program, offering them the opportunity to reduce their sentences in exchange for putting their lives on the line assisting the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire. The ensemble cast of Fire Country is led by Max Thieriot as Bode Donovan, a former prisoner and firefighter who is assigned to work in his own hometown after volunteering with Cal Fire.
Why Sheriff Country Is So Much Darker Than Fire Country
Back in September, Sheriff Country creator Matt Lopez explained exactly what it is about the Fire Country spinoff series that makes it so much darker than its predecessor. “I don’t discount the focus on community, but starting in Episode 2, one of the things we will do in Sheriff Country is show viewers some of the darker corners of Edgewater that [viewers] may not have seen before on Fire Country,” Lopez explained.
“In Fire Country, the enemy or the adversary, if you will, is the elements, right? It’s fire. It’s fire and nature in many ways.” Lopez then touched on the introduction of a consistently human element to the threats seen in Sheriff Country, noting, “As soon as you enter that into the equation, it takes you to some very interesting places.”
