What Happened to Stella Kidd? ‘Chicago Fire’ Season 14 Is Breaking Her Character for No Reason md11

Stella Kidd isn’t exactly having a good time in Chicago Fire season 14, and it’s not so much fun watching the show put her through the wringer, either. Miranda Rae Mayo’s Chicago Fire character has become one of Firehouse 51’s most important members since her introduction in season 4. Unfortunately, the NBC procedural drama TV series hasn’t treated her as such.

Sure, Kidd has had some truly incredible moments throughout her time on Chicago Fire. Her firefighting career has been a highlight, of course, and so has her relationship with Kelly Severide (even though their romance has surely had its fair share of ups and downs). However, no one can deny the fact that Chicago Fire has been mistreating Kidd in season 14.

Herrmann’s House Fire Highlights The Strain Between Kidd & Isaiah

Isaiah Lashes Out At His Foster Mom In Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 4

Chicago Fire‘s most recent grievance against Kidd came in season 14, episode 4, when Christopher Herrmann’s house burned down. Many will agree that Herrmann and his family were the true victims of the fire. But Kidd still somehow received some backlash from the tragedy, thanks to her and Severide’s foster child, Isaiah.

When Isaiah learned about the house fire and asked about Herrmann’s son (who is the same age as him), Kidd told him that the young boy would be okay. As it turned out, though, that wasn’t what Isaiah wanted to hear. Unbeknownst to Kidd, her statement seemingly insulted him. Isaiah lashed out at his foster mom for making assumptions about Herrmann’s son’s well-being.

Isaiah undoubtedly has some trauma that caused him to sympathize with Herrmann’s son in Chicago Fire season 14, episode 4. Something likely happened to him, and people assumed he was okay when he wasn’t. However, Kidd didn’t know that. She was simply trying to reassure Isaiah, who also isn’t to blame. He’s just a kid who has been through a lot, after all.

Kidd still didn’t deserve to be yelled at, and her fight with Isaiah in Chicago Fire season 14, episode 4, has only emphasized the unrelenting tension between the two. Kidd hasn’t been able to connect with Isaiah since she and Severide took him in, while her husband has made it look easy. Kidd’s home life isn’t her only problem, though.

Kidd Can’t Catch A Break In Chicago Fire Season 14

The NBC Show Is Wronging Kidd

We’re only four episodes into Chicago Fire season 14, and Kidd has already had a miscarriage, has had a fraught relationship with her foster child, and is running into problems with her troublesome new firefighter (Sal Vasquez). Simply put, Kidd can’t catch a break. The season literally opened with Kidd learning that she had lost her and Severide’s baby, for goodness’ sake.

The Chicago Fire season 13 finale ended with Kidd and Severide rejoicing at the news of her pregnancy, while the season 14 premiere began with them experiencing the heartbreak of losing a child. Since then, the NBC procedural drama hasn’t given Kidd a chance to breathe. And it doesn’t look like the show will get off her neck anytime soon.

Soon after learning about her miscarriage, Kidd met Carver’s replacement in the Chicago Fire season 14 premiere, and she didn’t like him from the start. Vasquez is rebellious, stubborn, arrogant, and an all-around nuisance to Kidd at her place of work. Meanwhile, Isaiah hasn’t been making her job as a foster parent easy at home.

Now, Kidd will face more obstacles while on the job in episode 5. The upcoming hour’s promo shows Kidd fainting during a call. While she’s choking and lying on the ground, Severide desperately demands that Kidd respond to him over the radio. The lieutenant will most likely be okay, but this is just another example of how the show is destroying Kidd.

How Chicago Fire Can Redeem Kidd’s Story In Season 14

There Are Still Plenty Of Episodes Left

Ultimately, Chicago Fire has forced Kidd to deal with various pointless tragedies during the first few episodes of season 14. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Seeing as there is plenty of time for the original One Chicago TV show to rectify its mistakes regarding Kidd’s season 14 arc, there is hope for her yet.

Kidd could turn a corner with Isaiah within the next few episodes. Or she could make a breakthrough with Vasquez, and the two could become civil colleagues, maybe even friends. Plus, the NBC procedural drama series could simply stop putting Kidd’s life in danger and give her a break (hopefully, for the remainder of the season).

Most of all, Kidd should be a parent. Whether that’s with Isaiah or a biological child, it doesn’t really matter. Well, perhaps the show can deviate from the One Chicago universe’s adoption trend and bestow a healthy pregnancy upon Kidd. At the end of the day, though, Chicago Fire season 14 must end with Kidd happy, making up for everything she’s been through.
